Nowak participates in cancer fundraiser

Anthony Nowak, son of veteran adviser and former AFA president Joe Nowak, participated in the Mater Foundation’s Climb for Cancer in Brisbane yesterday.

According to email correspondence between Anthony and Joe Nowak, Anthony’s participation in the stair-climbing event is part of a tribute to members of the Nowak family who have passed away from cancer.

“I’ve stepped up to take on the ultimate vertical challenge, Climb for Cancer, for my father-in-law, Peter, and my Dad’s best mate Bumper who both sadly passed away from cancer,” Anthony said in an email.

“I’ll be thinking of the fatherly chats I had with Peter and the many beers I shared with Bumper and my old man.”

According to the Climb for Cancer website, more than 1,000 people will walk or run up the 37 floors of Brisbane skyscraper Waterfront Place and be rewarded with picturesque rooftop views over the city.

The event is part of the Mater Foundation's efforts to raise $350,000 for its research institute, Mater Research. It aims to discover, develop, translate and commercialise medical research to find new ways to prevent and treat conditions affecting Australians, including cancer.
